The man is repulsive. The End.

I’m loathe to give him any more oxygen but the only thing more offensive than Sam Newman’s latest putridly sexist remark on The Footy Show, which you can see below, is his pathetic attempt to pretend it was a slip of the tongue.
Listen to the emphasis he puts on the words "Worthy of coming on HER" and you can see that he knew exactly what he was saying.

So last time, when he was an abhorrent pig about women on live TV, it was "a joke". This time, it was "an accident". The fact that he was ever allowed back on Footy Show is a disgrace.

And the fact he’s still there? Still being paid by Channel 9? Surely, that’s the joke…….

News Ltd reports:

Tasmania’s Economic Development and tourism Minster Paula Wriedt had
appeared in a clip on the footy show to promote Tassie’s push
for an AFL team. After watching the young mother of two speak Newman, who denies he
meant anything sexual, said “it would be worthy of coming on her.”

"In my mind, Mr Newman made a stupid and inappropriate comment, and
perhaps in the future he will be more careful about what he chooses to
say,” Ms Wriedt said in a statement.

"I have received numerous emails today expressing disgust at what Mr
Newman said, and I would point out that many of these have been sent by
men concerned at the nature of the comments.”

Ms Wriedt said Newman had contacted her to express his regret and apologise and she had accepted his apology.

Last night, as his stunned co-hosts including James Brayshaw looked
on in disbelief and reprimanded him for the comment calling it
“disgraceful”, Newman angrily protested the offensive remark was taken
out of context, saying it was a slip of the tongue: “I said she’s
worthy of coming on (the show).”

Speaking on 3AW this morning AFL chief Andrew Demetriou defended Newman, saying he believed it was “a slip”.

Nine also backed Newman today, issuing a statement from Tim Cleary, Executive Producer of Entertainment GTV9.

"There was never any intention to insult Paula Wriedt, and any suggestion to the contrary is
grossly unfair," the statement said.

"Sam Newman was simply suggesting Ms Wriedt should be a guest on the
program given the news of Tasmania’s backing.

"Sam qualified this moments later when he realised he’d been taken out of context.

"Sam is horrified at suggestions he made a lewd remark about Ms Wriedt, and phoned her to clarify his comment."

Today, Jessica Rowe has come out and joined in the chorus for Sam Newman to be sacked here.
