Not a day goes by that we don’t wish someone, anyone, would design a t-shirt depicting menstruation.
And friends, we’re glad to report that day is finally here.
American Apparel is selling a “Period Power” t-shirt, which features a screen-printed “self-pleasing artwork” of menstruation and masturbation and 32 clams is all that’s separating you from owning this baby.
Just an FYI, you might want to quickly scroll down this next image if you’re at work/on the bus/in view of small children.
The graphic design on American Apparel’s popular Power Washed Tee is part of a collaboration from 20-year-old artist Petra Collins and The Ardorous, the all-female online art platform she curates.
Half of the proceeds will go to the art platform which sounds like an excellent plan for an artist who “creates portraits exploring female sexuality and teen girl culture.”
The polarising t-shirt has garnered negative reactions like “that’s gross” from the female population, which begs the question, why is a normal female function considered disgusting?
Collins addresses the controversy in an interview with Vice magazine.

I like it. I wouldn't wear it because I don't dress for shock value and the t-shirt is not my style. [insert tongue-in-cheek emoji here]
...but yes, as other comments state, as artwork, it's powerful. Very powerful. Everything it depicts brings to life what [radical feminist*] Andrea Dworkin said (in 1979); "the one essential. 'cunt: our essence ... our offence”.
*radical because really, she hated everyone equally. and she was anti sex. GASP. Not the kind of person us "love, peace and equality for all" feminists find appealing.
I really like the print & it's refreshing that there is pubic hair also but no I wouldn't wear it on a t-shirt on a wall in my house for sure!
