Trigger warning: this post discusses rape and violence against women and may be upsetting for some readers.
Yes, forcing a woman to perform oral sex is rape. No, someone can’t consent when they are drugged or drunk. And yet it seems some people are still not clear on this.
Fifteen women have now come forward to allege they were raped by TV icon Bill Cosby at the height of his fame.
Fifteen women who all tell a frighteningly similar story: that Cosby allegedly drugged and then raped them.
The allegations span a period of more than 20 years.
None of them reported their claims to police at the time, all citing the fear they wouldn’t be believed. But when one alleged victim came forward recently, it empowered the others to tell their stories. Now 15 women have come forward, including model Janice Dickenson who yesterday alleged she too was drugged and raped by Cosby in 1982.
As an alleged Cosby victim explained, “I had heard…I was not the only girl he had drugged and raped but I never had any proof… I knew I should say something. I still felt ashamed. Ashamed that I didn’t earlier… As more and more of his rape victims have come forward, all telling similar stories, the time is right to join them”.

Regardless of his offensive line of questioning, when I was young in the 80s we were always told that you shouldn't try and fight off a rapist because that will just enrage him more then he might kill you, the idea was that if you submitted then you probably wouldn't be killed, that was the "trendy" law enforcemebt/ psychologist belief back then. Obviously some women wouldn't be able to fight back for various reasons but no doubt there would have been some women who did have think about fighting back but didn't because of this advice.
Now the "trendy" idea is we should fight back.
The irony is that not all rapists are the same, some men may be intimidated and stop if a woman fights back or become over powered by her allowing the woman to escape, other men may actually become more enraged by this and end up killing her.
You can teach women strategies that may help but at the end of the day when someone has control over you, you really can't predict what they will do. I would imagine that some women do freeze up, others are drugged, but even the ones that are thinking clearly (and I'm not sure how clearly you could think in this situation) may choose a "strategy" - fight or submit - that may or may not work, and they have a split second to decide what to do, compared to someone who may have carefully planned all this and is most likely physically stronger than the woman.
What do people will think will happen if you bite him?
I can tell you from experience:
"OH F**K YOU F***ING W***E" and then a swift punch to the temple that knocks you out and allows him rape you in peace and quiet.
You poor thing, that is so horrible. I hope you are safe now
I'm sorry to hear that has happened to you, but I'm glad to have you have spoken up because this the proof that this strategy may not work.
This is what needs to be said to this reporter.
Thank you for telling us what must have been traumatic for you.
