Warning: The following article deals with issues around child sexual abuse and could be triggering for some readers.
There is one group of people in society who are perhaps more reviled than any other. Pedophiles.
They are hated. They are stigmatised. When Mamamia publishes articles about this topic, many people call for capital punishment. Even those who would otherwise normally despise the death penalty.
That is because these people – and the discussion of pedophilia – is so stigmatised, it makes it difficult for pedophiles to seek help to try and stop them from acting on their urges.
And the truth is that some pedophiles genuinely do want help.
19-year-old Adam (and no, that’s not his real name) is one such person.

That's great that Adam has addressed the issue and is seeking help, it can't have been easy to admit it.
As a survivor of childhood abuse and as a daughter whose father was recently convicted of child porn offences, I take my hat off to you.
My father tried to reach out for help and wa told he would be reported and sent to jail. It wasn't until he was caught that he finally came clean. He's sees a therapist 3 times a week. Whilst I've my own past which would easily allow me to right him off and forget about him he is aware that as long as he seeks help I will support him.
There is 100% a difference between a person who abuses children and a person who is attracted to them. My father recognises that by watching these films he has escentially created an industry for these abusers. He has removed his internet connection and spends all his time trying to make himself better. He was also abused severely as a child.
Adam you're doing a wonderful thing seeking help. And I applaud your mother for doing all she can to support you. Keep on the right track and you have my support to. If someone with my past can support someone with these urges there is no reason anyone else can't.
