Sam Frost admits to hiding behind a pole afters seeing an ex in public.

The Law Of The Universe dictates that the day you’re looking a little rough around the edges is the day you inevitably bump in to your ex. No amount of bargaining with the dating gods can save you from that.

The latest soul to fall victim to this rule? Sam Frost. Evidently, starring on reality television won’t grant you immunity from untimely run-ins with former flames.

On the Rove and Sam show yesterday, the 26-year-old told the story of the day she went to visit a friend at her house in Sydney’s Rose Bay.

“I was like just walking the street, looking around like, ‘I’m pretty sure this is it’, then I caught someone’s eye who was very familiar. It was Davey, who is one of Sasha’s very good friends,” she began.

If you need a quick refresher, here’s the context: Sasha Mielczarek and Davey Lloyd both competed for Frost’s heart on The Bachelorette last year. While Mielczarek was the eventual victor, he’s remained close with a number of fellow contestants, including Lloyd (who is technically an “ex”).

Anyway, back to the story. As any woman would, Frost made an effort to avoid speaking to Lloyd directly — but not because the two aren’t on good terms.

“I had a hair treatment in so my hair was all slicked up in an ugly bun, I had no makeup on, I’d just woken up from my afternoon nap … and I just looked foul. So I sped up my pace, walked a bit faster, and hid behind a pole,” she admitted.

Yeah, we totally get it — but Frost’s co-host Rove McManus couldn’t hide his bemusement. Turns out he wasn’t the only one who didn’t quite understand the motivation behind her “lurking” behaviour.

“I called Sash and I said, ‘Sash, I’m just hiding behind a pole, your friends are right there.’ And he was like, ‘Did you say hi?’ and I said, ‘No, I hope they can’t see me, I can’t stick my head around the corner’,” Frost recalled.

It was a quick escape, but as Frost learned later on, it was far from a perfect one.

“I found out Davey and Dave [Billsborrow, another Bachelorette alumnus] were on a balcony watching me on the phone, saying, ‘What is she doing?’ They could see me hiding behind the pole, hiding from them. I was so embarrassed,” she said.

The mortification didn’t end there. As if on cue (OK, we’re not that naive — it was definitely on cue), the 2DayFm phone line lit up and Lloyd proceeded to share his version of events.

“I was parking my car and I saw this girl from the side and I was like, ‘Is that Frosty?’ And she sort of walked a bit faster,” he explained.

“Me and Dave were looking down at her and we could just see her hiding behind a pole, peeking in and out. We were like, ‘Should we wave at her?’ … It was just a weird situation.” (Post continues after gallery.)

For anyone else, this situation would have been hopelessly awkward, but Frost managed to smooth things over and save face.

“I’m so sorry, I just looked awful … Next time I see you I promise I’ll give you a big hug and say hi. I’ll be lurking from the bushes next time,” she quipped.

We’ll keep that in mind next time we find ourselves hiding behind a pole to avoid bumping into someone.
