Let’s talk about sex dolls.
Not comical, blow-up ones. Ones that look like this:
It’s difficult to know how to feel about sex dolls. On the one hand, they’re a relatively harmless sexual supplement/replacement for some (probably lonelier) members of society. On the other hand, they’re life-sized plastic dolls that people pretend to have sex with.
However you feel about them though, you’ll find this gallery compelling:
These are pictures from Zackary Canepari’s photographic series, ‘Love Machines’. You can see the rest of the chilling photos by clicking here.
Canepari’s photographs show various stages along the production line at the Real Doll sex doll factory in San Marcos, California, where a nippled and labia-ed life-sized Barbie doll will set you back a whopping $6000. The images are haunting, but perhaps the most intriguing thing about them is that they are just like the pictures that would come out of any other factory. Production lines, work benches, for a place that churns out things that are so taboo, it all seems strangely… normal.

Um, I'm a feminist, but I don't have an issue with this. Presumably there are also adult size male dolls available. People use fake penises or fake vaginas, this just extends the space around those body parts. Just don't fall in love like Lars did.
*facepalm*
Hang on.. so girls can have their dongs and vibrators and boys can have their fleshlights but goodness forbid a life-like doll being made for either sex to get off with because it suddenly becomes a feminist debate. Or a target for finger pointing?
There is an obvious market for these things - for the socially awkward/inept and those who like a bit of kink or those stuck in isolation. These dolls are nothing compared to the other ones coming out of Japan which you might have a case for with regards to the feminism thing. Urgh. As far as I am concerned, good on the creator for tapping into this. Sex sells.
And seriously, watch the video and consider it for what it is. Look past the "ew" factor that's put forward in this article.
Oh, and "Lars & The Real Girl".... *interesting* film...
