Media company Global Language Monitor has unveiled the most commonly used words, phrases and names of the year, and it seems our fave little coloured heart appeared billions of times a day around the world, across languages and cultures.
Yup, 2014’s most-popular.
It’s the 15th year of the award, and the first time ever that an emoji has won, just beating out ‘#’ for the title.
“Word” of The Year? Mkay.

The so-called "hash-tag" has always been called by its correct name "OCTOTHORPE" until very recent years.
My mother, now 81 years, has been a telephonist/receptionist and typist since the late 1940s and tutored me in the names of all the symbols on her typewriter in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
It suddenly acquired a new name in the late 1990s, probably courtesy of some American.
I was also surprised to hear that the word "cache" which I grew up with pronounced "cash" suddenly acquired a new pronunciation in the computer world. Seems its pronounced "cash-ay" now, or even "KAY-SH" in some circles.
