Sydney siege gunman had 20 shotgun rounds left when shot by police.

More details have been revealed today about how the Sydney siege at Martin Place ended in the early hours of 16 December last year, including the death of gunman Man Haron Monis.

Sources close to the Sydney siege investigation have revealed gunman Man Haron Monis had 20 shotgun rounds left on him when he was gunned down by police – sufficient to end the lives of all the Lindt cafe hostages.

The Sunday Telegraph  says multiple sources in the police investigation into the siege have revealed specific details about the raid that ended the siege on 16 December, including that Monis was shot up to seven times by police officers when they entered the Lindt cafe.

Two of the shots, from over 27 rounds fired by police, were to his head.

Details about the deaths of the two siege victims, Tori Johnson and Katrina Dawson, have also emerged.

Monis, allegedly, walked towards Lindt cafe manager and hostage Tori Johnson from behind, before shooting him in the head. Immediately after this shot was fired, police stormed the building and ”pumped him [Monis] with bullets”.

The police source told the Sunday Telegraph that Monis fired four more times at police as they entered, grazing one officer.

Police found up to 20 more shotgun rounds in his pocket when they checked his body.

Police have not officially commented on these disclosures as the matter is yet to be considered by the Coroner, who will make the ultimate findings about the death of each victim.

According to the Sunday Telegraph, preliminary forensic investigations have shown siege victim Katrina Dawson was killed by a police bullet that ricocheted to strike her in the heart. Another shot struck her shoulder. She was also showered with fragments of concrete and tile after bullets struck the walls and floor.
