Struggle Street's Billie Jo Wilkie is behind bars.

The Struggle Street finale may have aired but the saga continues.

Struggle Street’s bong-smoking pregnant 21-year-old Billie Jo Wilkie has been charged and refused bail after being caught twice driving while disqualified in Sydney’s west.

Ms Wilkie caused social media outrage when she appeared on the SBS documentary Struggle Street on Wednesday and was filmed smoking a bong and cigarettes in the final trimester of her third pregnancy.

She was caught by Mt Druitt police driving while disqualified on Thursday at 3:30pm and was also issued an infringement notice for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Just six hours later, she was pulled over for a random breath test and was recognised by police and was held without bail overnight. She returned a negative test.

Billie Jo Wilkie appeared in Mt Druitt Local Court on Friday on charges of driving while disqualified and driving an unregistered vehicle and bail was refused.

She will appear again in court on Monday.

The SBS documentary has been controversial and dubbed ”poverty porn” by critics, but proved a ratings winner with 935,000 viewers on Wednesday night.

While it exposed the plight of people living on the fringe of society in Western Sydney, it still drew criticism from Blacktown mayor Stephen Bali and from locals who complained that the entire suburb of Mt Druitt was discredited by the portrayal of a few people.

A version of this story was originally published on ABC.
