Two people have reportedly been shot dead outside police headquarters at Parramatta in Sydney’s west.
Police confirmed an operation was underway in the area and that they had asked the public to avoid Charles Street, Hassall Street and Wigram Road.
Witnesses reported seeing two bodies covered with sheets on Charles Street.
Surrounding streets were blocked off; a police helicopter is hovering above.
On the ground police are taking photos of cars and taking to witnesses.
The ABC understands the incident is not terror related.
Local resident Vijay Dantu, who lives opposite the police headquarters, recalls hearing gunshots.
“I was doing some work at my home and there’s a gun shot and I thought it was a tyre puncture,” he told the ABC.
“Then all of a sudden two more, two more shots came.”
More to come.
