To the millions of people who looked at the image over their morning coffee, he was just another homeless man.
A face peering at them from the front of the newspaper.
A man fending for himself against the harshest winter weather seen in over twenty years.
But to his family he was their missing son, and they would do anything to get him back.

He was only missing for a few days!
Say the same thing when one of YOUR loved ones disappears off the face of the earth. Those few days will seem like forever and take YEARS off your life. SMH!
I really hate to sound rude - but what if he didn't WANT to be found? We don't know WHY he ran away and for all we know there could have been a damn good reason as to why he didn't come home. He is a legal adult and should have been treated as such IMO.
Yipp exactly, this guy was living on the streets & it doesn't say why. Pretty sure he could have made his way home should he have wanted to, it's not like he's a child who doesn't know his address?
The article says that Nicholas shook the journalist's hand and told them his name. I would think if he did not want to be found he wouldn't have done that. Not saying that he did it to be found either. Admittedly, we are not sure if Nick was made aware of what the journalist was doing and that his photo could potentially be splashed across the front of a newspaper.
From the sounds of the comments from his family, it appears there are mental health issues at play here... Clearly no - one has arrested him & forced him home! There had been a social media campaign & and a police investigation into his disappearance - his family (and police) were clearly concerned for his well being. If he wanted to remain missing/ not in contact with his family, the police would have simply spoken to him, informed the family he was alive & well & closed the missing persons file.
I had concerns about that too. I suspect mental health issues may be at play, particularly as he left his wallet and phone when he disappeared. At least now his family have the chance to offer help and support, and if he doesn't want that, he can always leave again...
