1. Michelle Levy home

The father of Michelle Levy – the 11-year old runaway- has said he is still in the dark regarding what occurred while the young girl stayed with a stranger for two nights but that he was confident she was ok.

“She hooked up with someone on Saturday night – I mean, not in the hook-up sense,” Mr Levy said.

“Someone came across her and took her under their wing since Saturday night.”

“We don’t know exactly what happened. All we know is that they went shopping.”

The Daily Telegraph reports that her the disappearance was related to an argument with her father over a “chocolate laying under a bed.”

The newspaper also reports that her father is due to appear in court on November 20 charged with common assault in an unrelated incident, “in relation to an incident with a male. “

Adam Levy did not comment on the assault charges to News Limited.

 2. Five-year old boy tested for Ebola

A five-year old boy is being tested for Ebola in New York after developing a fever.

The boy had recently returned to the US with his family from the West African nation of Guinea.

He was among five members of his family who were being quarantined inside their apartment.

The New York Times reports that the boy’s mother is by his side.

 3. Prosecutor to appeal Pistorius sentence.

South African prosecutors have said that they will appeal the verdict and sentence in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial.

Former Olympic athlete Pistorius was found guilty of manslaughter over the killing for his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last year and sentenced to five years imprisonment.

 4. Jakarta International School

A disturbing account of staff raping children as young as five at the Jakarta International School has been reported by News Limited.

The case began in March when a five-year old boy was allegedly raped by cleaner in the school toilets.

The allegations have extended to three children – with six members of staff from cleaning contractors arrested.

The parents of the first boy have a $142 million lawsuit against the school saying he would require care for the rest of his life.

5. Ginger jihadist in new video

Abdullah Elmir the Australian teenager dubbed the “ginger jihadist”, has appeared in a new video on YouTube released by IS.

The 17-year old appears with a group eating, praying and reciting religious texts by the Tigris River.

6. Nurse in Ebola quarantine to sue.

A nurse in the US who was quarantined for a 21-day mandatory period in a New Jersey hospital after she returned from treating Ebola patients in Africa has said she is planning on filing a lawsuit.

Kaci Hickox said from isolation that she felt her “basic human rights are being violated,” when she was kept in an isolation tent at University Hospital in Newark, despite showing no symptoms of the Ebola virus.

She told CNN that she was stuck inside a tent without a shower or flushable toilet, despite having no symptoms and twice testing negative.

“Medically speaking there’s no reason for the state of New Jersey to keep her quarantined,” her lawyer Norman Siegel told media.

Overnight ABC News reported that she was released after the New Jersey Department of Health said she has been “symptom free for the last 24 hours,” and that it decided to discharge her after consulting with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

6. A new life to save a brother

A battle has been won in the fight to save the life of a 22-month-old Queensland boy with a rare disease.

Ryven Harris who has Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome needs a bone marrow transplant and there is finally some good news on the horizon.

7. Domestic violence call to action in QLD

The former governor-general Dame Quentin Bryce who is heading up the QLD Premier’s Special Taskforce on Domestic and Family Violence has warned that urgent action is needed to protect vulnerable women and children.

“Domestic violence is growing worse every week in incidences and gravity,” she said.

“I can’t believe that this is happening.

“To every individual it’s time to say – stop.

“Stop this horrific scourge in our community.’’

She said there were 175 investigations into incidents of domestic violence each week.

 8. Parents escorted off plane after two-year old’s tantrums

A family in the US say they were escorted off a plane by police after their two-year old son had a tantrum.

“He was crying and yelling and screaming,” Leo Khalfin told KSDK.

The family were on a Frontier Airlines flight when two-year old Sam refused to be buckled into his seat so his father held him on his lap.

He says he was informed the boy was not allowed to sit there – even though he had on a journey previously –

“I did what she told me to. I put him in the seat. I buckled him in and he was of course screaming and yelling and you know, I held him with force,” Khalfin said.

As Sam continued to cry, Khalfin says the attendant came back.

“She said well your son is too loud, you know, if you’re not going to keep him calm in the next three minutes, you guys are going to have to leave the plane,” Khalfin said.

The little boy then had another tantrum during the flight – and when the family landed they say they were met by airport police and escorted off the plane.

 9. Immigration Minister temporary ban

Australia has placed a temporary halt on processing any immigration applications from Ebola affected countries including Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea.

News Limited reports that the government is also cancelling and refusing non-permanent or temporary visas held by people from Ebola-affected countries who haven’t yet departed for Australia.

10. Woman dies after cosmetic surgery

A British woman who travelled to Thailand for cheap cosmetic surgery to enlarge her buttocks has died following the operation.

24-year old Joy Williams died in Bangkok last week reports The Express after she had undergone an operation to have her initial implants removed as she was unhappy with the surgery.

The doctor has been charged with causing death by reckless endangerment and faces up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.

11. Kick on app

Parents have expressed concerns over a new app that allows teenagers to list their parties for fellow partygoers to see.

The app Kick On allows teens as young as 13 to find private parties in their area  – and is being marketed as the “Tinder for parties and events”.

If you want to attend the party you “swipe right” to register your interest, the host then needs to either approve or reject the guest.

The app has a built in mechanism whereby guests need to be accepted or invited to see the event’s location.

But the idea that young people could harness the app to create ‘Corey Worthington’ style events has many concerned.

NSW Police Association president Scott Weber told Fairfax Media “I don’t see it as a winner. There’s going to be no control in regard to the people that attend.”

12. Manus Island asylum seeker writes to the UN

An asylum seeker has written to the United Nations in a desperate plea for proper medical care, The Guardian reports.

His desperate appeal comes after having a eye gouged and losing teeth in unrest during the riots at Manus Island detention centre in February.

The letter, sent on Monday, describes how the asylum seeker from Iraq cannot concentrate or sleep at night because of the pain.

Another asylum seeker on Manus Island wrote a similiar letter earlier this month, telling that he had been waiting 14 months for a dentist, The Guardian reports.

“There’s no remedy available for us,” the letter said. “Only Panadol and water. We are waiting for dentist during last year. I have toothache too. I lost [two] teeth.”

13. Jetstar to cut baggage limits 

Jetstar has announced it is cutting carry-on baggage limits, the Daily Mail reports.

The maximum weight per cabin bag will decrease from 10kg to 7kg on most flights, starting from next month.

Both QANTAS and Virgin Airlines already have their weight limit at 7kg.

Changes will affect passengers who book from today on, but restrictions will not be implemented until November 25.

Cabin baggage officers of the airline are now checking passengers at Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns and Gold Coast airports in a crack down on overweight luggage.

14. Rosie Batty named Victorian of the Year.

Rosie Batty, the domestic violence campaigner has been named Victorian of the Year. She was awarded the title on Tuesday night at an awards ceremony in Melbourne.

Batty’s 11-year-old son Luke was murdered by his father in February . Since his death, Rosie has campaigned tirelessly for more to be done to prevent domestic violence.

“I can normally talk quite well but I’m speechless tonight,” she said in her speech.

“Luke would be proud of me, but as a 12-year-old boy would be embarrassed. He’d say ‘Mum, it’s not a good look’.

“But I’m here because of Luke and I’m here because one on three women is affected by family violence.”

“All I know is I don’t have Luke anymore and I have to do something that gets me up in the morning and gives me a sense of purpose and direction. It could be politics, it may not be. “I have to work out the most effective way of making a difference.”
