The Malcolm Turnbull tweets everyone is talking about.

This afternoon, everyone’s talking about Malcolm Turnbull’s latest tweets.

But if you hoped he’d taken to social media to address the swirling rumours about a potential leadership spill, think again. Because instead, Mr Turnbull has taken to twitter to live-tweet his train trip to the NSW Central Coast.

The string of tweets was prompted by speculation over a secret meeting of potential Liberal leadership after 2GB radio host Ben Fordham tweeted: “Interesting fact: Malcolm Turnbull and Julie Bishop have arranged to meet at his Sydney home today”.

In an amusing attempt to show that no such meeting was taking place, the Communications Minister tweeted a picture of himself seated on a Sydney train to Fordham, writing: ‘You need to improve (your) surveillance!”

Mr Turnbull went on to insist he was at a National Broadband Network meeting in North Sydney this morning, where he boarded the train.

He then posted a series of images of his train crossing the Hawkesbury River, describing the trip as “very scenic if not rapid”:

To drive his point home, Turnbull finished up with a picture of himself grinning at Tuggerah station:

Julie Bishop also joined in the social media spat, tweeting to Fordham: “I did not meet Malcolm Turnbull at his home – I even told you (the) Qantas flight I was on! So what’s the point you’re (not) making?”

Fordham was having none of it, again taking to twitter to insist the two Liberal MPS had met.

Well played, Mr Turnbull. Well played.
