“Please don’t forget her.”
These were the words of Katrina Dawson’s heartbroken mother, Jane Dawson, at her memorial in Sydney today.
That’s not going to happen. So many people crowded the University of Sydney’s Great Hall today that they were queuing around the building for a space to pay their respects.

Yesterday Katrina, 38, was laid to rest at a private ceremony. Today, more than 1500 people, including the Prime Minister and former Governor General Quentin Bryce, farewelled the woman slain by a gunman in the Sydney siege exactly one week ago.
Her friends spoke about her abilities as a barrister, a loving friend, a loving wife and, above all, as a passionate mother to her three little children.
They shared stories about Katrina’s cake-making prowess, her legal skills, her love of fancy dress parties, her ability to manage a million things in a day, and they marvelled at their good fortune to have her in their lives, even for a relatively short time.
Katrina’s father Sandy said his only daughter “gave our family 38 years of joy.”
he was the best friend anyone could have.”

I was so pleased to hear Katrina Dawson's husband say his wife would have been 100% focused on getting back to her children. The media like to create storybook heroes who give up their life to protect someone else but there is complete heroism in just getting through a situation like the Martin Place siege. People escaped when they could and did what they had to to survive. No doubt Katrina Dawson was doing exactly the same until she was tragically killed. I cannot imagine what her children and husband have had to endure this Christmas and I send prayers and love to them.
Santa Claus is coming to town...This song choice broke my heart all over again. No child ever should have to go through what these three are going through now.To say goodbye to their mother two days before Christmas. If only I could give up every gift under my tree and every material object that my family will enjoy this Christmas in exchange for these little angels to be able have their mother a little bit longer. I have thought of Katrina Dawson's children every day since this horrible tragedy happened and on Christmas Day this year they will especially be in my thoughts. All my love and strength to them this Christmas xxxx
