Groom surprises bride with ISIS themed wedding.

An Egyptian groom has surprised his bride and guests with an ISIS themed wedding, something the couple are now claiming as a political statement.

Ahmed Shehata wanted a wedding nobody would forget, so he staged a kidnapping of his bride by asking his groomsmen to pose as hooded Islamic Militants.

The 25-year-old groom and his bride were ‘kidnapped’ by the knife-wielding men after their ceremony and led into an ‘iron cage’ modelled off the one Jordanian pilot Mu’ath Al Kassasbeh was burnt alive in earlier this year.

The religious song known as Nasheed played out through the staged events. The same song that has featured prominently in Islamic State propaganda videos.

The bride, Shaimaa Deif, said she had no idea what was happening but knew her husband was planning to do something strange.

“I was so afraid of the loud music, it made me feel as if something was going to happen,” she told youm7.

Shehata originally said he just wanted to create a moment his guests and bride would never forget.

“The idea came to me two weeks before the wedding, because I wanted a wedding party different to those of other people, especially to all the traditional ideas,” he told Youm7, according to a translation by The Independent.

Later, both bride and groom told reporters that the event was a political statement and comes off the back of ISIS releasing a video showing the beheadings of 21 Egyptian Christians kidnapped in Libya.

“Our fun and smile will fight IS, a cage of murder will be broken by Egyptians and they will dance and never be scared,” the bride told website Think Progress.

“We aren’t making light of other people’s blood. We’re showing that we’re not scared, and that Egyptians meet any crisis with laughter and comedy,”the groom told The Guardian.

“The events inflicted by Daesh [Arabic for Isis] is what made me think about the wedding in a different way. It will not be forgotten by everyone.”

It is not known whether the bride and groom are Christian or Muslim.
