“I will exchange your Beretta pistol for the brunette.”
Jinan was 18-years-old when she was kidnapped by Islamic State in 2014. She was held captive for three months before she managed to escape. She was beaten, tortured, raped and the forced to drink water from a source infested with mice.
Now, with the help of French journalist Thierry Oberle, Jinan has written a book. The book chronicles the all too common atrocities faced by kidnapped Yazidi women, and reveals shocking details of an international sex-slavery ring being run out of Iraq.
According to The Daily Mail Militants storm Yazidi villages in the northern regions of Iraq, kidnapping young women to be sold and traded like “livestock.”

Thanks for the article. While I reject the flawed "refugees must be poor therefore people who can get to Europe/Australia aren't *real* refugees" argument, we should be careful that the very real human need of the people currently journeying through Europe also draws attention to, rather than distracting from, the sadly less hopeful situation of those who are still trapped in ISIS-controlled areas, especially these women of religious minorities (including Yazidis and Christians) who are in incredibly horrific circumstances. I hope that Jinan is able to access the medical and psychological help she needs to feel safe and get on with her life after this abuse, and that others like her are able to escape too.
