Josie Webster is a disabled student at Engadine high, whose mother says was not invited to her high school formal. Her outraged mother created this video as a response, which quickly went viral.
Engadine High has responded to the Josie Webster story by releasing the following statement. Written by the school’s principal it suggests a different turn on events.
Dear Parents and Carers,
It may have come to your attention that there has been a significant amount of adverse social media regarding a Year 10 end of year function that was held last week. The claims that have been made have caused significant distress to students and staff.
Out of respect for our students and parents I would like to make a number of clear statements:
• Whilst the school had no role to play in the organisation of the event, we did allow notes to be distributed at school.
• Year 10 students participated in a privately organised and parent-run end of year event.
• These notes were distributed during roll call on three separate occasions. The school has been assured by other Year 10 parents of the Support Unit that they received the notes. The event also had its own Facebook page which was publicly available.

I attended Engadine high for a majority of my high schooling, my last year there being in 2000. It was an incredibly poorly disciplined school back then and to show how they were tackling the serious bullying and racism they distributed flyers and stickers "Engadine High, Anti-Racism Zone, it's a colourful future" but in reality, they did nothing about it. I remember that some severely bullied students were pulled out. I myself had hundreds of dollars worth of damage done to my belongings, physical and verbal abuse. Only 1 or 2 teachers bothered to notice, but it was the bullies who ran the school. I myself was not in the special needs classes however, I did socialise occasionally with the kids in these classes, and I experienced first hand the bullying these kids used to endure. I have buried the traumatic experience of Engadine High deep in my past, however remembering what was done to me and others, is still quite painful.
I do not have any children at EHS nor do I know any teachers there but I wonder what is still unsaid because the school can't say. Reading between the lines there is more to this story.
I wonder whether the child involved was actually at the rollcalls when the notes were distributed. Some children may have been absent, others are habitually late. Could this be the case. If the child did not attend the rollcalls perhaps she missed out. If that is the case the school have been very discretebut really cannot take responsibility for someone who was not there. I wonder why the other special needs kids got one at roll call. It makes me think she was not there.
You hit the nail on the head curius!!!!!! If this is the case, who would be responsable in getting Josie to the INCLUSIVE roll call in the morning????? It makes sense doesn't it????
