The 25th woman this year has allegedly died at the hands of a family member.
Trigger warning: This post deals with domestic violence.
A 37-year-old woman has died after being shot on a roadside in Hobart.
Police have charged a 73-year-old man — the woman’s estranged partner — with her murder.
According to ABC News, the man approached the woman in her car on Risdon Road and first several shots using a sawed off shotgun.
The woman was taken to hospital, where later passed away.
The accused is due to appear in court today.
This tragic death brings the total number of women killed in circumstances of alleged domestic violence in Australia to 25 this year — and that’s not counting women killed violently in other circumstances.
The number of women killed each week by a partner or family member has almost doubled since last year. Domestic violence is the single greatest killer of women aged between 15 and 44.
Regardless of class, age, location, race or religion — every woman is at risk.

The following women have also lost their lives in circumstances where they should have felt safe. Some of these matters are still before the courts, meaning their alleged murderers have not yet been convicted:

It's just too much..... we need to change the laws so perpetrators are more harshly punished the first time, AVO's or DVO's just don't work!!!
