At 4:30pm yesterday, Curtis Cheng left his office.
He was heading home for a well-deserved long weekend with his family.
As the 58 year old left the building, he was shot once in the back of the head by a 15-year-old brandishing a hand gun.
Police have released the name of the gunman, but the truth is we don’t really need to remember that.
The name we need to know is Curtis Cheng.
Curtis was a family man. He had a wife and two adult children. He was a Buddhist with a Hong Kong-Chinese background.
“You won’t find anyone in the cops who has a bad word to say about him,” the source told the ABC.
That was a sentiment echoed by NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione: “I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone have a bad word about Curtis.”
Curtis had been working for the NSW police service for 17 years as an accountant in the Finance and Business Services division. Sources say that he was loved by his colleagues, many of whom were also his friends.
“Curtis was admired and respected by his colleagues. He was a gentle man in every sense.”
Premier Mike Baird also spoke of how much he was cherished by his family and friends: “He sounds a wonderful man, very much loved by family and friends and indeed the police community.”
Rest in peace, Mr Cheng. We will remember you as a gentle and kind family man who would never have countenanced the kind of violence that took his life.

My heart breaks for this man and his family. He didn't deserve to have his life end like this not did his family deserve their loved one to die at the hands of a maniac.
Whatever the government is doing is simply not good enough to stop radical lunatics coming into this peaceful country.
Thank you for not saying the gunmans name
