A new report has recommended sweeping changes to Australia’s welfare system. Among those recommendations: A suggestion families should have to vaccinate their kids in order to receive the Child and Youth Payment.
A wide-ranging review of the nation’s $150 billion welfare system has laid out a plan for five basic payments and recommends tightening the eligibility for disability support.
The Coalition commissioned the review in December 2013 and asked lead author Patrick McClure, a former head of Mission Australia, to find ways to save money and encourage more people to return to work.
It has called for simplification of the 20 income support payments and 55 supplementary payments but that no-one should receive less money than they do now.
The report suggests there should be five primary payments: a tiered working age payment, a supported living pension, a child and youth payment, a carer payment and an age pension.
“The key to a simpler architecture is to have fewer primary payment types with varying rates within the primary payments that better reflect different circumstances,” the review said.
“Many people currently on Newstart allowance would be better off in the new system,” it added.

The report recommended creating a supported living pension for those assessed as having a work capacity of less than eight hours a week, who are expected to have the same limited capacity for another five years.

I am extremely PRO vaccination but I don't believe punishing kids for their parent's risky decision is the right way to go!!!
Although I vaccinated my kids back in the 80's, I am totally against forced vaccination or medication (as in fluoride in our drinking water). We do live in a democracy don't we?
It's not forced vaccination. It's a requirement to access taxpayer funded welfare. Taxpayers pay to treat the children who become sick from vaccine preventable diseases. Nobody is forcing you to prevent dental caries, either. You can collect your own drinking water. Sure- it's a democracy- where the taxpayer has a right to value for their dollar!
Do you also believe that parents should be able to refuse life saving surgery for their children using that same democracy argument? Or that they should be able to refuse to have their children educated either at school or by home schooling? Or refuse to treat their children's had lice?
Where's the line?
No one is suggesting anyone be forced, simply that if they choose not to vaccinate, they don't receive money. That's not force, that's requiring a certain standard of care be met before getting your hands on the dosh that the taxpayer pays... indeed, is forced to pay. Funny how THAT type of ''forcing'' is A-Okay, but the other kind, the kind where lives are saved and disabilities prevented, that's just not cool. So the world turns...
Forced vaccination would be the army/police rounding people up and vaccinating them under threat, en masse.
