Adam Goodes needs to “stop playing the race card”.
I’ve heard this said so many times these past few days as the ugly debate continues to rage around the indigenous AFL player who has taken leave from the game after persistent booing from the crowd whenever he touches the ball.
I know nothing about sport, but this isn’t just a sport story. This is a story about racism and bullying and the absolute worst of people trying to hide behind sport as an excuse to be appalling and drive a good man from the field. And then? When they’re called out? They blame Adam Goodes. They say his behaviour is what caused people to boo him. Even though there’s no other player in AFL history who has had to endure such relentless and persistant booing that he’s been forced to stop playing. Not even the most controversial or unpopular players in this or any other game. The first and only player to be so relentlessly plagued by booing is an indigenous player who has dared to defend himself and his people against racism. A proud man who has refused to be bullied or shamed into silence.

Oh please, don't even compare the two. Gillard was accused of using the gender card because she did it continually. And that is a documented fact. Goodes hasn't. Also, I find it extremely disturbing that it is women themselves that overlook the reason and background for that speech. Gillard was defending the then Speaker, Peter Slipper who talked dirty about women MP's (workplace harassment, and that is just for starters) private parts as an appropriate speaker, launches a defence of him, and THEN, women who defend what she said, because they are under the mistaken idea that she was decrying misogyny, instead of the fact she was defending the misogyny of *other* women. Just not herself. But hey, lets not think too deeply about the facts behind this pretty little speech that exposes Gillard as a supporter of misogyny and a hypocrite. No lets not let the facts behind that little speech get in the way of the 'magic' of it all. Shaking my head.
Maybe you shouldn't be commenting on something you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
I've booed Adam Goodes and i cans safely say it has nothing to with his indigenous heritage, pointing out a thirteen year old girl and winning Australian of the Year. It is based solely on the type of player he is.
The media decided to label Hawthorn supporters as racist and the issue has escalated to a place it didn't need to go. This has simply been a fight between people who sit in the stands and watch football religiously and the media and commentators who sit in their corporate/commentary boxes never engaging with the public. We are sick to death of being bullied by the AFL and the media into what we can and can't do.
Players like Joel Selwood, Ryan Crowley, Hayden Ballantyne and Stephen Milne were/are booed every week Ryan Crowley worse that Adam Goodes is and nothing is ever said or done about it. Why does Goodes receive the special treatment?
I'm not saying he isn't a fantastic person but he is a wanker of a player and thats why he's getting booed.
