A mother has thrown herself and three children from a burning apartment building in South Korea.
US Air Force Sergeant Daniel Raimondo helped rescue the family by rallying a group of people to catch the them in a blanket.
The children – aged one, three and four – were thrown one by one from the fourth floor.
People screamed as they watched. Video via Facebook.
The dramatic scenes were captured on video as smoke engulfed the building.
“[The] last baby was the most difficult in my eyes, she just wouldn’t let her go for some reason,” Sgt Raimondo told CNN.
But the sergeant persuaded the mother to let go of her baby by shouting: “Please just throw the baby down!”
Then he had to convince her to jump and by then the smoke “was just horrendous”.
“You could barely even see her at that point,” Sgt Raimondo told CNN.
After the scared mother finally jumped she was carried to a safe location.
“I just kept yelling and talking to her, ‘You’re alive! You’re alive!'”Sgt Raimondo told CNN.
Sgt Raimondo has been hailed as a hero by locals and the family, from Nigeria, have met with him and thanked him for his efforts.
“It was an emotional experience. The good news is they made it through alive,” said Sgt Raimondo.
