Sometimes, all it takes is one nipple to spark a nation-wide movement.
Adda Smáradóttir, a student at the Commercial College of Iceland in Reykjavik, decided to vent her frustration with social media’s inconsistent and sexist censorship laws in the most practical way: by tweeting a close-up picture of her nipple.
But as soon as she shared the photo, the seventeen-year-old was informed that she may have hurt her changes of participating in a student exchange to Costa Rica.
This woman’s beautiful photos of mothers make a lot of people angry.
Chastened, she removed the photo.
Then, because she does not take shit from anyone, she put it back up, reposting the original shot with the popular feminist hashtag #FreeTheNipple.
And soon, other women began to join in.
The movement spread quickly across the country, making its mark on several college campuses and junior colleges. Some schools even celebrated ‘#FreeTheNipple Day’ yesterday in response, with the Feminist Association of the University of Iceland tweeted to encouraged women on campus to go braless in honour of the occasion.
Even Icelandic Parliament member Björt Ólafsdóttir joined in, tweeting, “This is to feed children. Shove it up your patriarchy.”
Remember that time on Q and A when Julie Bishop refused to get behind #FreeTheNipple?
Us too.
How much are tickets to Iceland these days?
Would you get behind the #FreeTheNipple movement?

why are the nipples in this article censored?
I asked the same thing twice and my comments have been deleted both times. Let's see if this one makes it in.
Why are we so hellbent on posting nudity on social media? Seriously, it's time to get a grip. Totally unnecessary!!
