She’s a 6-year-old flying squirrel.
Quincy Simmons who is only six, is known as ‘The Flying Squirrel. She surfs and skates – and she’ll be the next big name in world surfing.
She earned her nickname – Flying Squirrel – because when she gets dumped by a huge wave she literally flies through the air because she is so small and incredibly light.
While we’re all impressed that this little squirrel is so talented at such a young age – that’s not the only thing that makes her remarkable.
If you like this, try: “Why isn’t this woman a household name?”
Quincy has Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH), a genetic condition that means a fall can cause severe bruising and even land her in hospital.
But that doesn’t stop this high-flyer – she still surfs and is making a name for herself.
She has an instagram account run by her parents Kim and Jake – @theflyingsquirrel__ – which is showing the world what this talented six year old can do.
Quincy will be involved with the Quicksilver Pro at Snapper Head in the Gold Coast at the end of February.
Quincy made some time to catch up with me and told me all about about her passion, living with CAH and what it’s like to be such an amazing surfer at just 6-year-old.
S: Tell me about yourself. When did you first start surfing? Why do you love it so much?
Q: I am 6 and I started surfing when I was 4 and a half. My Daddy was going surfing early in the mornings so I asked to go with him. I love it because it is so much fun and I get to meet lots of people and it is exciting when we go to a new surf break.
