He’s a “crusader for human freedoms”. Everyone be cool.
Fred Nile, everyone’s favourite bigoted homophobe and elected official, has put out a media release in time for Mardi Gras.
Just in case you had ever been left in any doubt what he thought about it.
The media release, entitled ‘Indecent Exposure of Parading Adults’, reads:
“Having served for over 34 years in the NSW Parliament and outspoken yearly about the immoral essence of the Homosexual and Lesbian Mardi Gras, the Rev. Fred Nile, Leader of the Christian Democratic Party, wants to set the record straight!
“I am a crusader for human freedoms and family values governed by traditional Judeo-Christian values. It is wrong when freedoms are exploited and test our laws. This is evident annually in the Homosexual and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.
[Yeah, come on, LBGTQI community. Can you stop exploiting all your freedoms? You know, those freedoms you have.
Not the freedom to get married or any of that family equality business, or anything.
But your other freedoms. All of them.
The media release continues:]
“Almost naked adults luridly imposing their sexuality to spectating, innocent children should be illegal as, according to our laws, is indecent exposure,” said Rev. Nile.

This really is getting tiresome, I personally don't much care for Mardi Gras or Pride festivals.. it's really not me as the introverted bisexual trans-woman I am. But the reality is that the need for Pride festivals and for Mardi Gras would slowly diminish over time if we were treated with respect, dignity and afforded full equality under the law. It's because of his own bigotry and intransigence that Fred Nile has to "endure" such dreadful immorality ;) In all seriousness if he simply got off his own high horse and stopped wanting to keep his own privileged position in society ... this wouldn't be an issue.
For what it's worth, he makes a valid point in respect of police enforcing laws uniformly.
If you can't walk up Oxford Street on a Wednesday afternoon flashing your tits without getting arrested, I see no difference on Mardi Gras night when you'll do so, apparently escorted by NSW's finest.
