Thought you knew absolutely everything about the transformation of Bruce to Caitlyn Jenner?
Wrong. Now that Jenner has harnessed her own story, she’s meting it out with Kris Jenner-like precision. The Vanity Fair story may be 22 pages long, but don’t doubt she’s saving the best bits for her upcoming E! docu-series.
There are still so many questions. So. Many. Questions.
Like:
“It’s one of the hardest things in life – choosing your own name,” Jenner told Vanity Fair.
She said she was drawn to the names Caitlyn, Heather and Cathy, and would watch Miss America pageants for inspiration. When her assistant Rhonda suggested the name Caitlyn, without knowing Jenner was already considering it, she settled on the moniker.
TMZ says the decision not to spell it with a K was a deliberate attempt to break away from the K-centric Kardashian crew.
It’s not clear whether her kids will still call Caitlyn Jenner “dad” or if they’ll switch to “mum” or
“Caitlyn”. In the two-part documentary About Bruce, the children of the family decided they’d call Caitlyn “Mad” (mom plus dad).
Yup. Rob Kardashian, 28, has long been the black sheep of the Kardashian family – opting out of sister Kim’s wedding, refusing to appear on Keeping Up With the Kardashians and not featuring on About Bruce with the rest of the family.
The noted sock maven is so out of the loop – and apparently doesn’t own a TV or a computer or have access to an old-fashioned newsagency – that he didn’t recognise his stepfather of 24 years on the cover of Vanity Fair.
Kim Kardashian told Access Hollywood that she sent her brother a picture of the cover, and he responded, “Why are you sending me this? Who is this woman and why do I care?”
“I was like, ‘Rob, that’s Bruce! That’s Caitlyn!'” she said.
Rob then relinquished his place among the six people in the world who were unaware of Caitlyn Jenner’s debut.
“He was like, ‘Oh my God, she’s beautiful!'” Kim Kardashian said. “And then he called her and they had a love fest.”
Phew! Glad they sorted that out. It could’ve been awkward.
While she’s had facial-feminisation work and breast implants, at the time of the Vanity Fair interview, Caitlyn Jenner had not had genital surgery.
According to Radar, she scheduled genital surgery to occur after the Vanity Fair story came out, in order to document it in her own TV series.
Kris Jenner has maintained that she didn’t know Bruce Jenner was a transgender woman and says it was “passive aggressive” of Caitlyn not to mention her transition until after the couple split.
“Why would you want to be married and have kids if this is what you wanted since you were a little boy? Why would you not explain this all to me?” she asked.
Caitlyn accused Kris of being unkind during their marriage. “A lot of the times, [Kris] wasn’t very nice,” she told Vanity Fair. “People would see how I got mistreated. She controlled the money… all that kind of stuff.”
Caitlyn was fairly damning of Kris in the Vanity Fair interview, saying that the couple’s split was “80 per cent how I was treated” and “20 per cent” because of her gender issues.
For her part, Kris Jenner says her husband was “miserable” and that they could barely leave the house before he wanted to turn around and go home.
Despite their disagreements, Kris Jenner has said she wishes her ex the best. On About Bruce, she told him to “just live the happiest life you can live. That’s all I care about. And that you can find the peace you’ve been looking for for so long.”
According to Mashable, Vanity Fair has been in talks with Jenner about the story since January. With a scoop a very real possibility, the mag conducted the whole thing with the utmost secrecy. Staff worked on the story from the one, internet-less computer. The story was saved to a thumb-drive and deleted from the computer each day. On the shoot days, security guards were hired and cell phones were banned.
The Jenner/Kardashians (apart from Rob!) were all in on it, but are, of course, way too media savvy to leak.
