Time to whip out your elastic waistbands and head off on a cross country adventure. Because across Australia, a culinary experience unlike any other is waiting for you.

No, we’re not talking about an eight course degustation menu that will require you to mortgage you’re home. We’re talking about burgers.

And not just any burgers, but Australia’s best. Burgers that will not only leave you with a pair of greasy mitts and a well-earned food baby, but burgers that people across the country have flocked online to rave about.

1. Mr Burger Truck, Melbourne.

The Mr Burger Truck is a Melbourne based food truck that you can find all over the Melbourne CBD.

Whilst the trucks are usually located on Chapel St, Brunswick St, Little Bourke St and at the Queen Victoria Markets, you can also check out their Twitter feed to find out where they are located.

Just be prepared to wait in line.

2. Nordburger, Adelaide.

After opening in mid 2013, this Norwood based eatery has quickly become an Adelaide institution, with a second store recently opening on Port Road.

Not only do they serve a mean burger, but they also have tater tots, crinkle cut fries and an insane list of milkshakes on offer. Peanut and Jelly shake, anyone?

3. Marys, Sydney.

If you like your burgers with a side of Satan, Mary’s is the place for you. The Sydney establishment, which is based in Newtown and the CBD, is a local haunt.

With the flagship store based in Newtown – a suburb vying for the hipster capital of Australia – and heavy metal constantly blurring, you may need ear plugs.

4. The Burger Haus, Tasmania.

A quick search of Tassy burgers on TripAdvisor will quickly reveal that The Burger Haus is the place to go when you’ve crossed the Bass Strait.

With steak beer battered fries and onion rings on the menu, The Burger Haus is a local favourite that you can find on Elizabeth Street in North Hobart.

And yes, that is a milkshake covered in marshmallows.

5. Chur Burger, Brisbane and Sydney.

If you’re heading to Brisbane, there’s no going past Chur Burger. The brainchild of award-winning chef Warren Turnbull, Chur – which also boasts stores in Sydney – was born from a simple vision, Turnbull’s love of burgers.

Their signature Pork Belly burger – complete with chilli caramel and slaw is a cult favourite.

6. The Cavenagh Hotel, Darwin.

It’s not just crocodiles and endless sunshine that Darwin has to offer. They have burgers, too.

And at The Cavenagh Hotel you can grab a burger and a bed to stay the night.

7. Boom Boom Burgers, Gold Coast.

The Sunshine State delivers again, with this humble burger establishment, which is the second most popular restaurant in Surfers Paradise.

A Queensland favourite, from the looks of its online reviews BBB never puts a foot wrong.

8. Newy Burger Co, Newcastle.

There is one complaint that people seem to make about the Newy Burger Co, and that is that the burgers are too small.

Based at The Cambridge Hotel, the NBC has a loyal following. It’s also one of the only places where you can score yourself a burger for dinner and dessert.

Is the west side the best side? When it comes to burgers it might just be.

You might head to Tasmania for the scenery, but you should stay for the burgers.

And they’ve even got a decent offering for the vegos amongst us, with one TripAdvisor contributor saying that the vegetarian burgers are the best they’ve ever had.

Located on the corner of Elizabeth Street and Flinders Lane is Rocket Burger and Fries.

Of course, you can purchase your standard burger and chips. But if you’re feeling brave enough, you can attempt this. We’re not sure whether it comes with a health warning, but you can assume it’s not for the faint hearted.
