Behind every successful woman, is another successful woman.
This is the message of the latest video campaign from leanin.org/together. The #leanintogether clip features female celebrities (and all-round powerhouses), such as Emma Watson, Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria, Serena Williams and Megyn Kelly, talking about their role models and mentors – or the women ‘behind their success’, who enabled them to ‘lean in’.
They stress the importance of ‘togetherness’; that women should be marching towards equality (in the workplace in particular) as a team, not divided or cutting each other down. The clip urges women to ‘lean in’ as a unit because, together, we are “funnier, smarter, more ambitious”… not to mention, “braver, badass, bolder, invincible and unstoppable”.
We are, after all, on the same side.
Sofia Coppola, Nina Lederman, Shonda Rhimes and Jenny Connor were just some of the women named as influential in the “safety net of support” they’ve offered other women. While professional success is at the core of the ‘Lean In’ movement, competitiveness and individualism has nothing to do with it.
“The idea that another woman was taking, somehow, something that belonged to you. That idea is shifting,” Lena Dunham says in the video.
We are more courageous when we encourage each other. We are more powerful when we support each other. We can change the world, when we lean in. Together.
