The 20 most iconic looks in Brownlow Medal history.

With the AFL Grand Final less than a week away, players and their partners are gearing up for the Brownlow Medal.

While it’s meant to be a celebration of the best player in the league, it’s the red carpet arrivals  everyone really cares about that have grabbed the lion’s share of the media attention in recent years, with countless debates over who was the best-dressed and who could have done better.

As a result, there’s so much pressure on attendees to ‘get it right’ – or do enough to avoid landing on the bad list.

At Mamamia, we’re all about celebrating Red Carpet Kindness. You won’t find any worst-dressed lists or judgmental comments about ‘fashion fails’ here.

It’s a reminder two seasoned Brownlow attendees, Annie Nolan (wife of Western Bulldog Liam Picken) and best friend Haylea Cooney (wife of 2008 Brownlow medallist Adam Cooney) are hoping people will remember as they watch and critique the red carpet tonight.

The pair are calling for a #BullyFreeBrownlow as a response to the increased trolling of female attendees and their fashion choices on the night.

“I think a lot of people watching at home forget that many women on the red carpet are just average wives and mothers who don’t see it any differently to supporting a partner at a work Christmas party,” Nolan told the Herald Sun.

In preparation for tonight’s fashion (oh, and ceremony) take a trip back down memory lane on the 20 most iconic Brownlow dresses we’re still talking about – starting in 2004 with Rebecca Judd, partner of then West Coast Eagles player Chris Judd in THAT dress.

Scarlet red and slit past the navel, it became less about the Brownlow and more about what was dubbed 'gownlow'. Yes, Rebecca Judd has been owning the red carpet for over a decade. (Post continues in gallery.)
