Great series, and just finished reading the other recap, very funny - so if you havent check that out, do so. I was stunned that Sarah came 4th, clearly that wasn't right. But maybe we didn't get behind her because of the twitterverse rumers that were floating around all week, that the powerhouse team of joel/ritchie etc. was twittering everyone they knew, and asking them to vote via facebook (which was free), maybe didn't happen. Anyways. Rachel 3rd, lovely girl, shame about her mentor, i have tried through this whole series, but, no, just cant like delta. Song choice (and its only my opinion here ladies/gents), was completely selected to showcase Delta's voice/range not Rachels. And surprize, surprize, announcement of Delta's upcoming tour, where no doubt she will crank that song out. Her choice of outfit, was lets face it, old fashioned, creepy and resembled a gold logie. She's statuesque anyways, lets not highlight the fact beside a petite partner. Joel and Sarah's duet was great, as was Seal and Karise, Keith and Darren, simply gold. All other 3 judges allowed their competitors to have their moment in the spotlight. Delta completely stole it. I hope they replace her next series, they will do well to do so. Maybe Ricky Lee? or someone else. I also read below comparisons between Casey Donovan and Karise.........no comparison, Karise sings like she's reincarnated from another world. She is so tallented, if she didn't win the show was rigged. She needs to get herself a solid manager and agent now, with her best interests at heart. And i cant help thinking Seal will also take her under his wing. He seems lovely. What a great show, cant wait for season two.
I am thrilled that Karise won. I think she is possibly the best raw talent Australia has uncovered in a talent tv show, and it looks like a lot of other people feel the same. Just look at the itunes chart!
The test here will be how Universal music manages her creatively, not whether or not Australia will get behind her - as far as I am concerned, they already have. I also don't think the Casey Donovan comparisons are fair, they are very different stylistically and we need to remember that it was Sony BMG who dropped Casey for not being marketable enough and for writing songs that weren't commercial enough. She was unearthed on a show that thought ridiculous themes and encouraging "versatility" was a good approach.
I would like to think that the fact that The Voice mentored talent in its natural form without heaping criticism on contestants and without stupid stupid themes like disco night, reflects Universal's approach to managing the winner. If they don't mess with Karise, the sky is the limit because we already know she has more soul than a sneaker shop :)
