Sarah Hyland has spoken out about her abusive relationship for the first time since obtaining a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop.
Modern Family actress Sarah, 23, was a guest on The Meredith Vieira Show on Tuesday. She was asked by host Meredith, who had also experienced domestic violence in her twenties, how she is coping with moving on from the experience of being physically and mentally abused (and even choked) by her boyfriend in their five-year relationship.
Sarah answered with two quotes.
The first was from a Dylan Thomas poem: “Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light,” which Sarah claims as one of her favourite poems.
“It just strikes a chord in me,” she said.
She followed it up with a Robert Frost quote: “The only way out is through.”
“People have to go through things in order to become the person they are today.
“And that’s that.”
Twenty three and so tenacious. We are so impressed by Sarah, and wish her all the luck in the world.

What a wonderfully strong young woman - so brave to come out publicly and speak about it - hopefully it will help young people in similar situations realise that they don't have to stay - they can leave - they are not alone.
