Fluff: Director reveals The Notebook stars hated each other. Also, love is dead.

In news that will destroy all of your romantic fantasies, Rachel McAdams, 35, and Ryan Gosling, 33, did not really love each other in The Notebook.

In fact, they pretty much hated each other.

Director Nick Cassavetes recently revealed  this incredibly cruel truth to VH1:

“Maybe I’m not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not. And Ryan came to me, and there’s 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, ‘Nick, come here’.

“He’s doing a scene with Rachel and he says, ‘Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?’ ”

The director continued, “We went into a room with a producer; they started screaming and yelling at each other. I walked out. At that point I was smoking cigarettes. I smoked a cigarette and everybody came out like, ‘All right, let’s do this’.

“It got better after that. They had it out … I think Ryan respected her for standing up for her character and Rachel was happy to get that out in the open. The rest of the film wasn’t smooth sailing, but it was smoother sailing.”

Gosling previously spoke about the deceitful romance in an interview with The Observer in 2007.

“We inspired the worst in each other. It was a strange experience, making a love story and not getting along with your co-star in any way,” Gosling said.

We are unsure as to whether the conflict arose after Rachel definitively claimed she was a bird while Ryan vehemently disagreed with her:

What we do know is that their love must have flourished when filming ceased in 2003, due to them hooking up off-screen and becoming one of the most attractive/perfect/jealousy-inducing couples of all time.

That, or Hollywood has lied to us and they weren’t ever really together. To be honest, with all these devastating admissions, we just don’t know what to believe any more.
