Missy Higgins

Missy Higgins has revealed some exciting news.

The ARIA Award winning singer has announced that she is pregant.

Missy and her musician fiance Dan Lee are expecting their first child in January.

The 30-year-old singer made the announcement tonight on Facebook.

She wrote:

Hi friends, this is about to hit the press so I thought I’d let you all know personally, my fiancé Dan and I are expecting a baby in Jan!
Very exciting and happy times! A new chapter is about to begin, and with it a crazy and wonderful journey, no doubt. Thanks for your love and support. missy xx

Missy also told News Limited, “I don’t think we’ve quite got our heads around how much our lives are about to change, but we’re so excited about it.

“Both being ‘creatives’, we’re mostly looking forward to getting out of our own heads and obsessing about something other than ourselves for once!

“And, of course, teaching him piano and guitar, I can’t wait for that.”

Earlier this year Higgins made headlines after featuring in a portrait for the prestigious Archibald Prize, which saw her kissing artist Sophie Hewson.

Higgins has openly been in relationships with both men and women in the past. In 2007 Higgins told lesbian magazine Cherrie she is “not straight,” and thinks, “sexuality is a fluid thing and it’s becoming increasingly more acceptable to admit that you’re that way.”

The singer is also a fierce campaigner for same-sex marriage, revealing in a Mamamia interview that “love is love, it shouldn’t be discriminated against. I mean, it just makes sense to me. It’s the way our country is moving; it’s the way that the world is moving. So if you don’t get with it, you’re going to be left behind.”
The mum-to-be has been keeping herself busy in the past year working on a new project called OZ. The new album will feature Higgins collaborating with multiple Australian artists including Kate Miller-Heidke, Something for Kate, and Neil Murray.

The tracks, set for release on September 19, will be accompanied by a book of essays, inspired by her new songs.

Congratulations Missy and Dan!
