The photo she chose to share with her fans paints a beautifully intimate portrait of first-time motherhood.
Charlie’s Angels actress Lucy Liu has surprised the world by posting a photo on Instagram this morning of her holding a newborn baby.
Liu’s rep told US Weekly that the baby was born via gestational surrogate.
“I can confirm that Lucy Liu is the proud mother of Rockwell Lloyd Liu, brought into the world via gestational carrier,” the rep said in a statement.
“Mum and baby are healthy and happy.”
The 46-year-old actress kept her plans for a baby pretty quiet, with one commenter seemingly quite confused at how surrogacy works as she wrote on the photo, “but she wasn’t pregnant when I saw her at Soul Cycle a month ago?”
Liu has named her son Rockwell Lloyd Liu. And he’s pretty damn cute for a newborn.
Liu has spoken out in the past about her biological clock, saying back in 2010 that it was “broken”. She also said she didn’t believe in timeliness when it comes to matters in her personal life.
“I never feel like it’s too early or too late for anything,” she told Good Morning America in 2010.
“I don’t ever think for me that this traditional way is the way to go for me because I haven’t had a traditional life.”
Congratulations to Liu and her family.
