She’s just getting through one cat-fight, and now she has to prepare for another.
Delta Goodrem, the Australian Treasure Whom Everyone Seems To Hate Sometimes Because She’s So Nice (or the ATWESTHSBSSN for short), has been cast in the coveted role of Grizabella in the upcoming Australian tour of CATS.
Which means she’ll be singing that main song everyone knows from CATS**, ‘Memory’.
It’ll be a different kind of cattiness for her, after all the promos of Delta and Jessie J ‘cat-fighting’ on The Voice. Because everyone knows that two women can’t sit next to each other and get along, right Channel Nine?
Jessie J and Delta. Don’t make me choose.
“I am so excited to be making my musical theatre debut as Grizabella in CATS, one of the most iconic roles”, said Delta in an announcement this morning.
“I grew up admiring Andrew Lloyd Webbers’ musicals, so it is with great honour I am getting to join the CATS‘ legacy.”
Although popstars being put in lead roles is tiresome and frustrating for Australia’s struggling but talented Music Theatre community (because it happens so often), the response has been positive. It’s no secret that Delta G can sing, and even without any Music Theatre training or experience (as she herself confessed), she’ll probably be great in the role – and most importantly to producers, she’ll draw a crowd.

CATS is one of those musicals that I don't get the appeal of- my grandmother bought me the DVD for Christmas one year and I could only get the through the first ten minutes.
When I heard it was coming back to Australia, a friend and I decided we should go see it, mostly so we can say we've seen it.
Delta being cast has actually made me excited to see the show. I can't wait to see her in the role.
Catty title. MM is for the sisters once again! You are the ones perpetuating a divide against other women. Why have that catty title. Just say that a wonderful new role for Delta. Why bring up gossip from the other day. Would this happen with the Maddin brothers. It would have been brothers disagreeing and end of story. It would never had been carried in to a new career venture. If you want equality look at how the media contributes.
