I’m not a Charlie Sheen fan. I don’t know, I think it’s something to do with the hookers, the coke and the repeated allegations of beating up women. And there’s the fact that he’s been somewhat unhinged in the past few months. Tiger blood, anyone?
But in recent weeks a new, saner Charlie Sheen has emerged. When he appeared on the Today Show in the US this month and spoke to Matt Lauer, Sheen was composed and rather self reflective admitting he had made mistakes. You can watch that interview here:
Then this morning Sheen appeared at the Emmys to present the award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series. I held my breath. And what came out of his mouth shocked me: Charlie Sheen was gracious.
“Charlie Sheen came, he saw, and he took the high road. And that was about it. No jokes, no asides, no nothing but earnest (on the surface, anyway) words of support for his former Two and a Half Men colleagues—many of whom, including Jon Cryer and co-creator Chuck Lorre, were in the audience tonight.
“Thank you, good evening,” Sheen said, pausing to take in the applause (which may have seemed bigger because he paused.) “Thank you,” he continued. “Before I present Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, my old category, I want to take a moment to get something off my chest and say a few words to everybody here from Two and a Half Men. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you nothing but the best for this upcoming season. We spent eight wonderful years together and I know you will continue to make great television. Now, on to the Emmy.”
Was it a calculated career move or a sincere offering of an olive branch? Who knows?
When was the last time YOU ate humble pie? When was the last time you had to dig deep and offer the olive branch?

Jane Lynch always looks so lovely on the red carpet.
Call me cynical but what a very clear cut and calculated career move.
Step aside Sheen. Kutcher is going to be awesome tomorrow night. I love the show but I can't stand Charlie Sheen. He needs to move away from Hollywood and get better he is obviously suffering from mental illness.
