Daniel O'Keeffe: Death of missing Geelong man not suspicious, police say.

The death of missing Geelong man Daniel O’Keeffe is no longer being treated as suspicious, police have said.

Skeletal remains were found under Mr O’Keeffe’s family home at Highton in Geelong’s west on Monday.

Mr O’Keeffe went missing in 2011.

“The current circumstances surrounding the death are not considered to be suspicious but a thorough investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of death,” police said in a statement.

“A post-mortem examination will be conducted, along with other forensic examinations including DNA testing which will assist in the identification process.”

In a statement on Facebook yesterday, the family confirmed the remains were Mr O’Keeffe’s.

“It is with heavy hearts that the family and friends of Dan O’Keeffe update this page to share that Dan’s remains were discovered earlier today,” they said.

Mr O’Keeffe was 24 when friends and family believed he had vanished from his Geelong home, without taking any belongings.

A social media campaign was set up as part of a high-profile effort to find him.

Mr O’Keeffe’s sister Loren devoted herself to finding him.

In 2013, she founded an organisation called the Missing Persons Advocacy Network to provide practical support for friends and families of missing people.
