Samantha Jade’s mother Jacqui Gibbs has passed away after a battle with cancer.

The Australian singer and actress was reportedly by her mother’s side when she died peacefully on Sunday morning, the Daily Mail reports.

The 27-year-old pop star, who made her acting debut playing Kylie Minogue in INXS: Never Tear us Apart earlier this year, announced the sad news in a statement this morning.

“Our beautiful mother Jacqueline Deans Gibbs passed away peacefully with family by her side,” Samantha wrote.

“She fought til the very end with the strength and grace by which she lived her life and will be deeply missed,” she wrote.

“We appreciate your kind words, prayers, and respect for our family during this very difficult time.”

The  X Factor Australia winner said recently that writing music during her mother’s illness had been cathartic.

“I’m writing from a different place. I have been focusing on making sure I’ve been working hard because my mum would not want it any other way,” she said.

“She says to me ‘Don’t stop doing your music’.”

Ms Gibbs was only diagnosed with cancer in February, and on hearing the news Samantha immediately flew back to her Perth family home to take care of her.

The singer has only been sighted recently on work duties at the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation ball last month.

“I only fly in for shows now, I base myself at home in Perth because I’m with her most of the time,” the tiny singer told MailOnline in April.

‘I’ve taken a lot of time off, as in, I’m only here (away from Perth) when I need to be to do work.”

She also told Famous last month: “My mum’s such an incredible woman and she needs my support right now. Obviously, she’s more important to me than anything else.”

On Thursday, she posted a meme to her Instagram reading: “I love you mum.”

The accompanying caption said: “Make sure you tell your mum you love them. There’s just no one like your mum!”

Our thoughts are with Samantha and her family.
