FLUFF: Bree and Jessica beat Chloe and Kelly in My Kitchen Rules final

South Australian mums Bree and Jessica have taken out the My Kitchen Rules title after defeating resident villains Chloe and Kelly from Western Australia.

The controversial cook-off started with the aptly dressed women – Chloe and Kelly in black (like their souls?) and the angelic mums in white – delivering extended monologues about their families. After plenty of “this means so much to us”, “this will change our lives”, etc, the ladies got down to business.

It was Jess and Bree’s beetroot Carpaccio VS. Chloe and Kelly’s Caprese salad.

Manu was probably sick of his own voice after critiquing a team for the lack of sauce on a dish. This time it was Bree and Jess who made the doozy but the dish was well received by the rest of the judges. Chloe and Kelly got bonus points for making their own mozzarella, which Pete said, “Was a wonderful display of confident cooking.”

After some quick back patting, the teams were on to the second course – open scallop lasagne with fennel puree from the SA mums and confit ocean trout with broad bean pesto from the WA travellers. (Hungry yet?)

It was another winner for Bree and Jess with Martini saying, “This is a very fragile, perfect dish.” Chloe and Kelly hit a few speed bumps with the judges finding bones in their fish.

Stress set in with the third course as Chloe and Kelly served up veal sweetbreads, which, FYI Kelly first tried at a Michelin star restaurant in London. Manu claimed it was the best sauce he had ever tasted in My Kitchen Rules‘s history and the dish was “cooked to perfection”. Bree and Jessica’s squab also drew favour from the judges.

By the fourth course, it was pretty much neck and neck with Chloe and Kelly’s pig’s trotter crepinette labelled a “stand-out dish” from resident bad-boy Colin. Bree and Jessica’s lamb shanks were also a hit with the judges, especially their flavoursome consommé.

It came down to the final course in which Bree and Jessica nailed their deconstructed chocolate and rhubarb tart. Chloe’s decision to add a sugar shard to their team’s dessert of rose chocolate with spiced figs and pistachio ice cream was panned by the judges.

Cue confetti and hugging- the SA mums scored 54 out of 60, two points ahead of their rivals, to take home the $250,000 prize money.

All in all, we’ve heard enough about “the hero of the dish” being “cooked to perfection” for one year, till next time MKR!
