Well this is awkward, Katy Perry’s new song Roar sounds an awful lot like 33-year-old American singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles’ Brave.
Brave was release three months ago and to make it even more awkward Perry tweeted about how much she loved Bareilles at the time of the release.
I heart you @Sarabareilles : http://t.co/6BGGzoAibn

You probably don’t immediately recognise Sara Bareilles by name but you will definitely recognise her debut single, Love Song, which was nominated for the 2009 Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a phenomenal 41 weeks.

i've been listening to Sara Bareilles since her first album release...I love her music and i LOVED Brave when it was released...hadn't heard about Katy's ROAR until i listened to it on here...i agree that sometimes the melody or song is often sold to more than one artist and it's up to them what they do with it. For me, I gave Brave to my 5-10 yr old nieces as it's a song about being who you are and fighting for your own voice to be heard & that of others and not being scared to stick up for yourself. i won't share Katy's as the lyrical value is not what i wish to give my nieces...it's up to the individual....
Its not the first time Katy Perry's song writers have copied the key components of another artist's song, compare Katy's E.T. song to T.a.t.u's "All the things She Said' written in 2002.
