Brussels terror attacks: The world reacts and unites.

As we wake to the news of yet another terrorist attack – this time leaving at least 34 dead in the European capital, Brussels, the world unites, showing solidarity with the victims and standing firm against the terrorists.

The attack comes just a week after a bomb in Turkey – the sixth in eight months killing more than 200 people in that time – and the November attacks in Paris that left 130 dead.

The twin attacks in Belgium paralysed the city – but less than 12 hours after the people of Brussels have taken to the streets to show they will be united laying flowers, drawing messages on the streets and going about their life.

The hashtag ‪#NousSommesUnis –  “We are united” is taking off showing the world as one.

In Paris the Eiffel Tower announced it will light up in the colours of the Belgian flag tonight.

As the sun sets the first images of the historic monument, once again mourning a tragic loss of life, have begun to emerge.

Cartoonists whose ability to capture the moment though the deftness of their work have used the character TinTin to display the devastation of the European nation.

While, the Manneken Pis, a 60cm high bronze sculpture in Brussels which depicts a naked boy urinating into a fountain, has become a motif for other cartoon responses to the attacks.

Meanwhile across the world leaders from the Pope, through to Barack Obama have condemned the attacks:

Meanwhile in Brussels people are taking to the streets writing words of love and peace in chalk. The Place de la Bourse, located next to the Brussels Stock Exchange, has become flooded with locals and tourists shocked, grieving and defiant.

“Let’s take back the power over our world, our revenge will be dreadful, let’s think about the victims.”
