“She was doing it for her kids, and she was doing it for her family.”
In a rare interview with Today, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have spoken about their marriage, Angelina’s decision to have her ovaries removed following her double mastectomy.
Speaking about what it was like when he found out Angelina had to have the operation, Brad said: “I was out in France, and Angie called me and I got straight on a plane to return.”
“Seeing my wife have to be her strongest and knowing that it’s the scariest news is terribly moving.”
In 2014 Jolie, announced she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in order to prevent cancer.
She also had a double mastectomy in 2013 for the same reason.
“To face these issues together and speak about them and talk about what it is to be human, I think can be a beautiful thing,” 40 year old Angelina told interviewer Tom Brokaw.
“I think for as much as it speaks about my strength, he (Brad) made it very, very clear to me that what he loved, and what was a woman to him, was someone who was smart, and capable and loved her family,” Angelina continued.
Jolie is one of many women in possession of the BRCA1 gene, which places women at an 87 per cent chance of getting breast cancer, and a 50 per cent risk of ovarian cancer. Her mother died in 2007 after a decade of fighting ovarian cancer.
“There was no vanity to my wife’s approach,” Brad said. “It was mature. ‘This is our life and we’re gonna make the best of it.’
