Hey men!
Not sure what to get your female best friend this Christmas? How about some unsolicited sexual intercourse? She’ll never see it coming!
A new advertisement, which appears in the Bloomingdale’s Christmas catalog has been criticised for encouraging men to ‘date rape’ their female friends.
The ad, which shows a man staring creepily at a nearby woman, features the caption: “Spike your best friend’s eggnog when they’re not looking.”

The image surfaced on Imgur earlier this week and has since racked up thousands of views, as well as a whole lot of criticism on Twitter.
Funnily enough, people aren’t too amused by the suggestion that raping your friends is a fun way to celebrate the silly season.
As several eagle eyed users also pointed out, the ad bears an uncanny resemblance to Robin Thicke’s video clip for his controversial song Blurred Lines, the hook from which includes several repetitions of the words: “I know you want it”.
The New York department store has issued an apology for any offence caused, admitting that the ad may have been in “poor taste”.
Here’s a hot tip: don’t drug your friends.
Not at Christmas, not ever

When I was growing up 'spiking' a drink was putting alcohol into a non-alcoholic drink (e.g. spiking the punch). The meaning has, rightfully, shifted to date rape.
I can not possibly see how either of those definitions would be acceptable for a catalogue!
