In the hours after David Bowie died, one question gathered steam among the mourners.
When would his ex-wife Angie Bowie find out?
The former model who split from Bowie in 1980 after ten years of marriage is currently a guest in the UK Celebrity Big Brother house.
She was cut off from the outside world, with a barrage of cameras tracking her every move.
After telling her the news, Angie Bowie elected to stay in the house.
And then the cameras were turned back on.
Small segments of the footage aired in the UK overnight.
“I haven’t seen him for so many years, I can’t make a big drama out of it. I just feel like an era has ended with his passing. I’m so very sad,” she says in the footage, speaking directly to camera in the diary room.
“The stardust is gone.”
In the subsequent footage she tells fellow guests David Gest and John Partridge that she wanted to stay so the press wouldn’t be able to reach her.
“I just don’t want the press to get to me. I’d prefer to be here, but I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t,” she said.
“If I leave, I look callous, if I stay, I look callous.”
The footage has caused a social media uproar, with many people seemingly thinking that Angie Bowie was told on camera.
OfCom, the British media regulator, has reportedly received 13 official complaints about the footage.
Angie Bowie’s manager Ray Santilli said the decision to stay was hers alone and that she had gone into the Big Brother house “knowing that her emotions would be laid bare”.

I know Angie and think it is cruel for people to attack her for her decision. Everyone reacts to emotional situations differently and no-one knows what is anyone else's mind or heart. She is a strong, independent woman who is much more than David Bowie's ex.
You are correct, her reaction is very normal and appropriate, she hasn't been married to him for many years, sure it's normal she should feel sad, but the grieving should be left to his current wife and family.
I don't think anyone is attacking her though. Aren't the complaints all aimed at Big Brother, from people who are either a) upset that they aired the footage at all or b) under the (mistaken) impression that Angie was told on camera? I didn't see any criticism of her at all and would certainly be pretty disgusted if I did.
Eh. I an not a fan of BB. It is a bunch of narcissistic people who want to be filmed doing nothing for other people's entertainment. Everyone is aware there is nothing private or sacred about it, and if you either go on as a contestant or watch it at home you are complicit in that.
She has been divorced from David Bowie for 25 years, probably hasn't seen him in a long time. If I found out my ex (who I only divorced 8 years ago) was dead I would possibly feel shocked and maybe upset, but I wouldn't stop my life and rush over either.
It's actually been 35years (split in 1980)......I agree with your comment completely!!
Oh gosh, I thought it said 1990! Well, I blame exhaustion. Teething toddlers have no respect for sleep.
